Crann na Seachtaine

This weeks crann na seachtaine is the horse chestnut.

If you pull a leaf stalk off a branch, you will see a horseshoe mark left behind. Hence the name.


The leaves are very distinctive, with 5-7 leaflets.


The fruit is called a chestnut and it is covered by a green, spiky shell. Children collect the nuts and use them for a game called conkers.
